In my column "Eddy's Episodes", I tell stories from my life, what shaped me, how photography became my profession and how I founded EDDYCAM.
Today we continue with episode 6 - here we go:
In the meantime I also successfully sold cameras. My initial equipment was a sales presenter from Kodak with the recently released Pocket Instamatic 100, 200, 300, 400 and the top model 500, which was the only model built by Kodak in Stuttgart. The bright frame of this "Pocket 500" was manufactured in Geisenheim by "Balzers", a specialist supplier of optical coatings. From time to time I saw at the post office how small packages were being sent from there to Stuttgart.
In the meantime I also had SLR cameras in my range. I focused on the Pentax Spotmatic SP 1000 with screw mount. Pentax soon switched to the fast K bayonet, and three years after I started I had the Pentax MX and ME models in stock with almost all lenses. Unlike today, at the end of the 70s you still needed a lot of light, which was generated by better cameras with an external flash. The "Braun 410 VC", a handheld flash unit, developed into one of my best-selling flash units.
Film cameras, film projectors, enlargers, bags and tripods were added to my product range just as quickly. My first offer for slide projectors was the "Rollei P35 A" at a price of 149 DM.
The first four devices were bought by four young, travel-loving school leavers who quickly became good customers and very good friends. These friendships still exist today. After three years, the young company was literally bursting at the seams, so I was happy when the opportunity arose to expand.
Stay tuned and look forward to the story of how Edlef's grew in the next episode.

Elk leather - the thickest soft leather in the world! 🦌
Elk leather is a valuable and rare raw material that is very limited. By the Nordic conditions The fur has to protect the animal from cold and heat, which is why breathability and thermal insulation are important. These properties are transferred to the tanned leather, which is particularly cuddly, soft and durable.
Its natural properties make the premium leather an extremely reliable partner - not just for the Scandinavians, but for everyone the Native Americans also used elk leather for their clothing. The softness of the leather reflects the high quality and conveys security, warmth and well-being. It is one of the highest quality genuine leather types in the world.

The advantages are the same: it cushions the weight when running and thanks to its ergonomics it can be carried comfortably for a long time on a walk. The individual color combinations, such as the EDDYCAM of the month in the color sky-nature come into their own perfectly.
By the way, that's what FROGGI thought when Jens, the new moose in the EDDYCAM stable, discovered him on his tour through Hamburg 🐸
The product of the month: The EDDYCAM sky-nature VINTAGE in 35 mm 📸
Today on the road with sunny greetings from Hamburg with a view of the ELPHI - in exactly the same place where world star Robbie Williams stood two days ago before he played an exclusive concert with a large orchestra. Robbie Williams & EDDYCAM - Quality at the highest level that connects 😉
Incidentally, from the other side of the Elbe, you can see the skyline of Hamburg and get a picture of Hamburg in many different ways. The right companion - our product of the month is particularly suitable for retro system cameras with a silver housing, but also for a purely black one. If you want to photograph the skyline of Hamburg on the side away from the city, you can get there in different ways. One possibility is the ferry, which brings the numerous musical guests from the city there, an experience in itself, or you can walk through the old Elbe tunnel with its tiled tubes.
If you have explored the Speicherstadt beforehand or eaten a delicious fish, the comfortable EDDYCAM with its great color combination catches the eye everywhere. At the same time, the EDDYCAM helps to ensure that the camera is always at hand to have when a seagull steals the fish from a tourist's bun.
The EDDYCAM VINTAGE camera straps in particular are as unique as the person who wears them 🙋🏻♂️ In our case, with its brown straps and the contrasting seam that matches the natural-colored inner leather, the 35 mm sky-natur VINTAGE is rightly the EDDYCAM of the month.
Perfect for all rangefinder class cameras such as: Leica M, Fujifilm X-Pro, Sony A-6000, small Olympus systems and others! 📸
Nice mild autumn weather and great colors tempt you to take an autumnal walk ☀️🍁🍂
Of course, the camera has to be there in order to create an impressive picture of the beautiful autumn colors at the right moment.
So that the camera is not a burden, an EDDYCAM is the right choice. But the colors of an EDDYCAM belt are also fresh, crisp but also restrained at times. As individual and unique as the person who wears it 📸
We are presenting a special color combination this month as "Product of the Month". So you can be curious about which ones we have selected from our range for autumn.
If you don't want to wait, you can check out the newly designed website. We have adjusted the image, but above all we have improved the speed. You can use it to show your loved ones what the right combination for your own camera is for Christmas.
There are more and more old treasures of analog camera models that need the protection of an EDDYCAM on an autumn walk. The design of an EDDYCAM is timeless. Let yourself be surprised which article we have ready for you this month 🙋🏻 ♂️
Hi! My name is Jens and I come from the far north of the republic. Ever since I was a child there has been a passion in my life, photography.
28 years ago, my hobby became my profession - since then I've been a photo salesman with heart and soul. Most of the time in a traditional company, in various branches and different positions.
I have a passion for photography, just like my Rheingau colleague Eddy Vienna how. A few years ago, when Eddy presented his then much smaller selection of EDDYCAM in Hamburg, I knew immediately: If it is going to be a camera strap in the future, then it has to be a soft EDDYCAM made of elk leather. I was able to present this great product with Eddy and his team at Photokina 2014 at the world's largest photo fair in Cologne.
Today, at 49, I dare to take the next step as a new moose in the EDDYCAM enclosure. I am convinced by the quality of the professional belts, as well as the philosophy behind the EDDYCAM products. Spreading them around the world is not just my job, it's my calling.
EDDYCAM elk leather straps are simply awesome. Great wearing comfort, no rubbing and chafing just great. An infestiton that is really worth it. Especially when using large and heavy camera models. I have a strap for each of my different cameras, I have four of them in great colors and different widths. Keep it up.
You can see that you care little about your weight and therefore your health. I would like more camera straps from a sporty and active person so I know the environments tested are from. In photo 2 I see a badly distended stomach which indicates an unhealthy lifestyle. For me you cannot represent the brand credibly.
In my column "Eddy's Episodes", I tell Eddy Vienna, stories from my life, what shaped me, how photography became my profession and how I founded EDDYCAM.
In the fourth episode I would like to tell you how I took the step into self-employment in 1974 and opened my own business. Let's go ⬇️ 📸
Twenty-four, my son had just been born and I made the decision to start my own business. I chose a small town with an industrial area that was also a school, research and shopping town: Geisenheim in the Rheingau. I didn't know anyone and had no advance praise. I wasn't sure if my 25 square meter small photo shop with two large shop windows (2x2m) would work. So I had decorated a window with "Harlequin Gifts" and named myself EDLEF's Photo&Gifts. Until now, my friends called me Eddy, my real first name is Edlef. My starting capital was small, about 5000 marks. So I had to see how I could differentiate myself from other providers. My name, which hardly anyone pronounces correctly, seemed to me to be a good choice. It was the time when the first supermarkets were built on greenfield sites.
I ceremoniously opened on June 24, 1974 at 11:00 a.m. - but no one came. My first customer entered the store at 12:15 p.m. It was a professor from the research institute, department of landscape conservation. He was on his way to the mailbox and wanted to send his film to Foto Quelle as usual. "I'll try your quality" said "Professor D.". From that day on he was an almost daily customer.
Do you still have pictures from the early days of EDLEF'S? Publish them as a story or post and tag EDDYCAM - we would be very happy 🖤
The EDDYCAM can be used universally and is also ideal for carrying your binoculars around your neck without it pulling or pressing. Not on the neck, not on the shoulders - and not even after wearing it for hours.
Are you wondering which EDDYCAM suits your binoculars best? The width "M" with 10mm width is suitable for binoculars in medium format (up to approx. 42 x 42). Alternatively, you can choose the exclusive EDDYCAM 35mm. Large and heavy night glasses are very comfortable to wear with EDDYCAM straps in size "L" (60mm), even over longer distances 🖤
EDDYCAM owes its extreme resilience primarily to the solid craftsmanship and the resilience of the elk leather and all other product components.
Whether 5-fold connection tapes sewn with special thread (with a tensile strength of 4700 N), break-proof stainless steel clamps for length adjustment or connecting elements made of robust PP material - only the consistently high quality of all components ensures the enormous resilience of the camera straps. And makes them almost indestructible - even under the toughest climatic and operating conditions. We give a two-year guarantee on this.
Our FAQ's - today with the question: How does the EDDYCAM behave when I sweat and it's particularly warm?
EDDYCAM elk leather camera straps were designed for use under extreme conditions. An EDDYCAM is therefore very easy to wear even under such conditions. The edges of the camera strap are designed in such a way that they cause as little friction as possible on the skin. The EDDYCAM may absorb sweat or rain like a sponge in extreme humidity. That is harmless. Simply let your elk leather belt air dry at normal room temperature for one to two days. Hairdryers, heating, irons, microwaves and tumble dryers are not suitable for drying because they can damage the leather.

We at EDDYCAM stand for the finest elk leather and perfect workmanship. No process achieves a more elegant feel than embossing, which is why the new EASY collection is now available exclusively with an embossed logo in an elegant tone-in-tone look.
Do you already know our new EDDYCAM EASY collection, which we reported on in detail last week? Did you know that the new products from the EDDYCAM EASY collection are only available with an embossed logo in a classy tone-on-tone look? Because no process achieves a nobler feel than embossing!
A colored contrast seam as a fashion statement! As early as the 45s and XNUMXs, designers recognized that functional elements of clothing can be aesthetic. Above all, seams have the function of holding fabrics together. Every now and then, the functional yarn experiences a fashion update and provides that certain something for rather simple clothing and accessories. Nothing is louder and more stylish than a colored contrasting seam - Edlef Wienen knows that too. That's why the black EDDYCAM EASY is now available not only with black seams, but also with yellow, red and blue contrasting seams. The EASYcolor camera straps elegantly underline the individual style of their users. In addition, they have a XNUMX mm wide leather contact surface, which is equipped with natural rubber for more comfort. The straps and powder-coated stainless steel clamps are black to match the leather.
The EDDYCAM EASY can also do extremely high quality! Photo beginners who find the colored contrasting seam too subtle can now also opt for the black-nature EASYmode. The highlight: this EDDYCAM has an even softer leather on the inside in the color natural, which perfectly underlines the contrast to the black outer leather - a great stylish nuance. The seams are sewn five times with light, natural-colored special yarn - no leather processing can look finer and more noble.
EDDYCAM – a commitment to style and quality par excellence: Purchasing leather and processing it are a matter of trust and no compromises should be made. Edlef Wienen only works with professionals in their craft. The finest leather and perfect workmanship symbolize the EDDYCAM brand. No process achieves a more elegant feel than embossing, which is why the EASY collection is now only available with an embossed logo in an elegant tone-in-tone look.
"Diversity is our strength, innovation is what drives us and partnership is our goal - that's why we are constantly developing our product range for photo enthusiasts and setting new standards," emphasizes Edlef Wienen.
Today with the question: How do I choose the right strap for my camera?
EDDYCAM camera straps have a body-hugging cut. Our straps are wider at the points with the heaviest loads to ensure the best possible weight distribution. It is therefore important to select the correct belt width for maximum comfort. The soft elk leather and the integrated rubber padding make your camera feel lighter than you are used to from conventional camera straps.
To find the right strap for your camera, you can find a detailed overview of all models on our website:
NEW: EDDYCAM EASY Collection - Fashionable elk leather camera straps with embossed logo! 📸
Photography is especially popular among young people. The smartphone quickly twitched and a photo was taken. The image results are quite acceptable because the current smartphone models have four to five lenses, larger sensors and more intelligent software. But if you want to be really creative, you can quickly get a camera with a system. The supplied camera straps are often scratchy on the neck and too short for many photographers. In terms of safety, functionality and comfort, they often leave a lot to be desired. The new EDDYCAM EASY collection (eddycam.com) combines a classically cut camera strap with a fashionable design, the finest, elastic elk leather and high-quality workmanship. Carrying the camera with the EDDYCAM EASY is comfort and joy at the same time.
EDDYCAM EASY – classic camera strap made of elk leather: The EASY collection was originally developed for photo beginners whose budget was almost exhausted by buying the camera equipment. "It wasn't an ergonomic camera strap, as is usual with us, but a straight-cut camera strap made of black elk leather with a printed logo, which had a positive effect on the production costs and thus on the sales price," says Edlef Wienen, Managing Director of EDDYCAM eK in practice it turned out that photographers who like to use straight shapes, but don't want to compromise on quality, value and design. That is why the EASY collection has been fundamentally revised.
Hi! I'm Eddy and today, in part 3 of the new section "Eddy's Episodes", I want to tell you the story of how photography became my profession: ⬇️📸
My father was a photographer. So it was obvious for me to start in this career field. I found it exciting to paint with light. My path led, via small detours, first to the photo salesman at Photo Besier in Wiesbaden. As an apprentice, I was able to take a different camera with me every weekend, which I made good use of. I particularly remember the grandiose long-term recordings with a Canon QL 19E. After my apprenticeship, I changed my job several times. I acquired a lot of knowledge in professional photography at Fotogitter, at that time Europe's largest Hasselblad dealer. The next way led me to Frankfurt to Photo Rahn. There I was responsible for managing the branch in the Main Taunus center.
I was now 20 years old. Just standing behind the counter seemed too narrow and too boring for me in the long run. That's why I switched to Kleffel & Aye as a sales consultant. From then on I visited photographers and equipped them with studio flash systems from Braun, Balcar and Multiblitz as well as cameras from Plaubel, Linhof and Bronica. Accompanying large events with equipment for fashion photographers was also one of my tasks. It was a great and exciting time. But I wanted to see more and do practical work. So I switched to an advertising photographer as an assistant. Here I got to know the unusual everyday life in this profession. A very eventful time in which I also had to solve difficult photographic tasks.
Soon we will continue with the next episode and the story of "The Photo Dealer" - stay tuned!
